Barbershop Harmony Australia (BHA) is excited to announce the return to Hobart of the BHA National Festival in November 2022.
This year's Festival features more than three days of free public performances, contests, and special ticketed events.
There will be a Barbershop Mingle In The Hanging Garden, open to the public and featuring a Pub Chorus activity as well as performances by barbershop quartets from all over Australia.
Keep your eyes and ears out for the tight harmonies as groups pop up at various locations throughout the streets of Hobart.
The quartet contest will be at the Theatre Royal, Australia’s oldest continuously operating live theatre, where you will have your chance to hear more than 45 quartets battle it out for the coveted gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The chorus contest is in the Federation Concert Hall, home of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and one of the principal performance venues in Tasmania. The a cappella Spectacular Showcase Concert featuring The Velvetones is also here on the Saturday evening.

Velvetones Visit Voluminous Venue
Vibrant, versatile, vivacious: just a handful of words to describe these four fabulous women. Inspired by iconic vocal ensembles such as Manhattan Transfer, The Andrews Sisters and The Chordettes, these velvet-voiced virtuosos perform everything from heart-stirring jazz ballads to cheeky early Broadway ditties to hypnotise and delight. This sassy women’s quartet have been making a name all over Australia for their beautiful singing and harmonies, humour, and sense of good fun.
The Velvetones launched onto the Australian music scene in 2018 and quickly established themselves as one of the country’s leading a cappella ensembles. They performed to sell-out audiences and received glowing reviews following appearances at the Melbourne International Singers Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Voices in Paradise (QLD), and Hobart Festival of Voices where they have been festival favourites for several years. At the 2018 National a cappella awards they were crowned National Champions and Band Champions, receiving special awards for Best Jazz Song, Best Comedy Song, Best Soloist, and Audience Favourite. After a long, COVID induced break, The Velvetones launched their debut album to sold out audiences at Memo Music Hall in June 2022.
