Hobart in 2009 was special

It rained!

Convention HQ was the Hotel Grand Chancellor on Hobart’s historic waterfront. The quartet and chorus competitions were held in the sophisticated Federation Concert Hall. This was also the venue for Harmony Spectacular on the Saturday evening.

All agreed that this was a fine, self-contained venue, with every activity on minutes away from any other.

The Theatre Royal was the site for the opening ceremony and massed sing. This is Australia’s oldest working theatre and one of our most beautiful treasures, dubbed by Noel Coward as  “a dream of a theatre”.

During the break it was standing room only on stage as delegates photographed the unique ceiling decorations.

Other heritage locations included Scots Church, Salamanca Place and Cascade Brewery.
