The 17th Barbershop Harmony Australia (BHA) National Convention in Hobart will be the first Barbershop Harmony Festival. This is BHAs chance to share barbershop with the people of our host city.
The Festival will commence on Tuesday 17 and conclude on Wednesday 25 September 2019.
This year we are offering all the usual experiences, along with the exciting new Festival elements.
On Tuesday 17 you can take part in Pop-Up performances in Hobart City. There is also a Cascade Brewery experience, and in the evening a Barbershop Pub Choir.
Pop-Up performances will continue on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, providing an opportunity for quartets and choruses to surprise and delight locals in the city.
On Wednesday, our National Education Faculty is offering a free barbershop workshop - the Everyone Singing in Harmony Chorus. Barbershoppers are keenly invited to support locals in this workshop. The Chorus will have a performance opportunity at the Civic Welcome and Massed Sing.
Another element will be the brief Town Hall Concert on Wednesday, late afternoon, where we will give residents a taste of the best of barbershop before heading to the John Little Show at the Wrest Point Hotel where quartets will perform in a relaxed atmosphere prior to the contests.
Thursday to Saturday will feature the Quartet and Chorus Contests plus all the usual activities such as the Civic Welcome and Massed Sing, Chorus Corral and Youth Workshop.
Choruses are also invited to participate in our traditional Sunday church service. As well, quartets and choruses are invited to perform at the Farm Gate Market which operates on Sunday at Bathurst Street.
The Hobart City Council has funded BHA to provide these Festival experiences for the people of Hobart. It's a great chance for us to extend our reach beyond the contest stage during convention (or should we say Festival) time.
The Festival will conclude with another outstanding Harmony Academy featuring a first-class faculty and curriculum. Harmony Academy will be located at the Tasmania Police Academy in Rokeby, just 20 kilometres from the main venue across the Derwent River.

We are delighted to announce that the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) International 2017 & 2018 Silver Medalist Quartet, Signature will be the Festival Headline Quartet. An a cappella group formed in 2014 in Florida, their name is derived from their unique and diverse style. Signature sings vocal music and a cappella covers of R&B and Soul songs. They are a dynamic group whose sound continues to evolve. This foursome connects with the audience on a deep level through their emotional delivery and eclectic repertoire.
Here are two outstanding examples of their work.
